I’m Jacob Pohlsander from Mesa, Arizona and I want you to be my new voice student.
My main goal as a voice teacher is to help students cultivate their vocal talents so they can sing with confidence. In lessons, we focus on bringing out the natural voice through simple vocal techniques that strengthen the voice in a safe and healthy way. When studying with me, you will also learn important musicianship skills such as basic music theory, tips on individual practice, vocal health, and performance etiquette. I also offer College Prep Sessions to voice students who are interested in continuing their education after high-school. The goals of these tailor-made sessions are to prepare students for Higher Education Music Programs and to guide students through the audition process.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Degree from Dixie State University (DSU) in St. George Utah. While there, I was a soloist for both the Southwest Symphony and Orchestra of Southern Utah 2013 productions of Handel’s Messiah, and performed in many musicals with the DSU Theater Department. In addition, I sang the role of Escamillo in a concert version of Georges Bizet’s Carmen.
Just recently, I received my Master of Music in Vocal Performance degree from the University of Redlands (UofR) in Redlands, California. My experiences there include singing with Josh Groban, the King’s Singers and The Who on separate occasions and performing in Newfoundland with the UofR Chapel Singer. I also performed the roles of Aeneas and the Sorceress in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and performed in Mahagonny a songspiel by Kurt Weill. As a teacher with the UofR Community School of Music and the Arts, I had a small but successful voice studio where I instilled confidence in all of my students.
